Some hot casting news is out for “Game of Thrones,” and highly anticipated new shows “Star Trek: Discover” and “Riverdale.”

 

“Game of Thrones” news:

Academy Award winning actor Jim Broadbent has been cast in season seven of “Game of Thrones.” So far there’s no word from HBO on what character he will portray, only that his role will be significant. Hailing from Lincolnshire, England, Broadbent is well known for his roles in “Moulin Rouge,” “Iris,” two “Harry Potter” films, “Cloud Atlas,” and more. No doubt he will be a fabulous contribution to the show.

Latest casting news for “Star Trek: Discovery”

Badass, beautiful, and talented actress Michelle Yeoh will play a lead role in the new “Star Trek: Discovery” series. Her character name will be Captain Georgiou. Best known for her amazing roles in “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” and the Bond film “Tomorrow Never Dies,” Yeoh was born in Ipoh, West Malaysia. As a teenager, she moved to London, England to study dance at the Royal Academy. In the early 80s she started making action films in Hong Kong applying her dance skills for martial arts action scenes. She even does most of her own stunts.

So far the cast is looking incredible. Along with Michelle Yeoh, “The Walking Dead’s Sonequa Martin-Green will play the role of Lt. Cmdr Rainsford, and Anthony Rapp from “A Beautiful Mind” and “Rent” will play Lt. Stamets. Then there’s Doug Jones. Don’t be surprised when you see that Jones’ filmography rolls off the page. This talented actor has been in everything from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” to “Pan’s Labyrinth, “and was Abe Sapien in the “Hellboy” franchise.

Other actors announced are Mary Chieffo, Shazad Latif, and Chris Obi. It’s looking as though the Klingons will play a pretty big role in this new series. Trek fans will have to wait until summer of 2017 for the premiere, and things are looking good so far.

 

“Riverdale” cast expands

Molly Ringwald is headed to CW’s new show “Riverdale” as Archie’s mother. According to Variety, her character of Mary Andrews will be returning to the town to help out her family. She will reconnect with her husband Fred (Luke Perry) and former high school friends Hermione and Alice. Lately Ringwald has been seen on “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.”

The highly anticipated CW show stars K.J. Apa as Archie, Camila Mendes as Veronica, Lili Reinhart as Betty, Cole Sprouse as Jughead, and Madelainie Petsch and Ashleigh Murray as Cheryl and Josie.
